Remember the original Star Wars?
The force?
There were two sides, right? The light side and the dark side.
And never the ‘twain shall meet.
No Jedi could master both without succumbing to the dark side. Not even Yoda.
But…
What if a Jedi master COULD wield both (without becoming evil, of course)?
He would be the most powerful Jedi… EVER.
In fact, if you’re into the whole Star Wars universe thing, you know characters like Jolee Bindo DID use both the light and dark sides… They were called “grey Jedis.”
Of course… it’s just a story.
But, in finance, there is a “light side” and “dark side.”
Savings and debt (and iterations of those two opposing ideas).
Savers and spendthrifts.
Most people believe it’s impossible to wield the power of the dark side (debt) without succumbing to it… those who seem to be able to do it… usually end up doing very nasty and immoral things to themselves and even to other people.
I mean, what do you think of when you think “dark side?”
Wall Street. Amirite?
All the crazy stuff that happened in 2008.
The Collateralized Debt Obligations (CDOs)…
And then there are those who use only the “light side.”
Savers are like the good Jedis. They never use debt. They pay cash for everything. And so on.
Most people end up stuck somewhere between the light side and the dark side…
Caught in a psychological struggle… never mastering either.
Always thinking they must gravitate toward one or the other.
Either they drift hopelessly (and deeply) into debt… becoming victims of the dark side.
Or… they turn back to the light.
But… what if you could use BOTH the light side AND the dark side?
What if you could master BOTH and use both… at the same time? Never making choices between the two. Gaining the power of both…
You would become an unbeatable Jedi Master of finance.
A Grey Jedi.
Well… about 11 years ago, I became a padawan and learned it WAS possible to wield BOTH, contrary to conventional wisdom.
And… do it in a way that didn’t corrupt my soul.
